If you ask frequent visitors to name the best time to visit Playa del Carmen, you’ll likely get many different answers. With such amazing weather and so much going on year round on the beautiful Riviera Maya, how could a person choose? Therefore, the best time to enjoy Playa del Carmen just depends on your personal preferences.
Below is a look at a few of the least crowded times of the year and what makes them great for visiting Playa del Carmen.
April and May
If you like the beach and beautiful, sunny weather, but you don’t like crowds, Playa del Carmen in April and May will be Paradise Found. The daytime temperatures are in the 70s and 80s with low humidity, while at night it falls back to the 60s. Unlike the U.S., the rainy season doesn’t begin until June, and May has the highest average daily sunshine hours all year (11 hours). April ties for second with 10. Enjoy the (nearly) empty beaches and stores, but do keep in mind two busy weeks to watch out for — Easter Week in April and the Sacred Mayan Journey in May.
Although the locals would call November the start of winter, Canadians and Americans call it fabulous! The rainy season has nearly ended and the skies are mostly sunny. It’s breezy and the sea is slightly choppy, but the average temperature has only dropped to 81 degrees. The water temperature has dropped a bit as well to a chilly 78 – 84 degrees. All this so-called winter weather keep some tourists away, making for great deals and uncrowded beaches and restaurants. Be warned, the Taste of Playa festival and the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival also take place in November, which are popular events among international tourists and locals, which could mean more crowds around those festival dates.
