April is one of the most pleasant months here in the Mayan Riviera, so it’s no wonder that organizations around the world host their festivals in and around Playa del Carmen this time of year. One of these is The Rivera Maya Film Festival 2015, which brings novel national and international film projects to Quintana Roo’s residents and tourists alike.
Join Us at The Fourth Annual Riviera Maya Film Festival(RMFF)
The Riviera Maya Film Festival 2015 takes place from April 23 to 29, 2015 and is the fourth incarnation of what is now becoming a popular and global event. It was founded in 2012 with the vision of becoming an engine of cultural development for the state of Quintana Roo. RMFF’s mission is two-fold; first: it aims to bring the highest caliber of artistic films to a region of the world that might never have access to them otherwise. Secondly, it wants those who are interested in film and filmmaking to have an outlet for their talents.
The festival also has an industry platform, called RiverLAB. RiverLAB works with independent film makers who are in the post-production phase and require funds to complete their projects. Entries are pre-judged and eight of the finalists are able to have their films viewed by the panel. Two winners are selected and receive 200 thousand pesos towards the completion and distribution of their films.
There are six different categories of films shown throughout the festival, from independent Mexican films and documentaries regarding human and environmental issues to mass audience-oriented and avant-garde artistic films. There is nothing like watching a remarkable film, under the stars, on one of Playa’s white sand beaches. Visit the site for a list of dates and venues which take place in Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, Cancún and Puerto Morelos.
