Who follows our blog, knows that one of our favorite repetitive guests is Santa Claus. He usually stays at Playa Palms Beach Hotel a few days in December. This year he is visiting together with his wife, Mary Christmas. While last year we wanted to know what he likes most about Playa del Carmen, now we asked more intimate questions and learned who really manages his business and that he had to go in therapy.Read More >>

Exclusive Interview with Santa
We are really thrilled to share our interview with Santa! On his annual vacation in the Riviera Maya, where he enjoyed one of our Ocean Front Studios at Playa Palms Beach Hotel, he took the time to chat with us. We asked him about his recommendations on what to do on Christmas in Playa del Carmen, his favorite spots, and he even told us some other secrets.
Playa Palms: Hi Santa! How was your trip?
Santa Claus: Ho, ho, hola! Good, I flew in by plane this time, to allow my reindeer some rest before the busy time, while I relax here in Playa del Carmen. I really enjoyed your pick up service from the airport by the way, such a kind driver!
PP: We are glad to hear so. And are you satisfied with your room this year?
Santa: Yes, thanks for asking, I feel very comfortable. Please let the maid know that I really liked the cute little Santa she made out of my towels!
PP: I will! You’re one of our most loyal guests, Santa, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for staying with us again this year.
Santa: Ho, ho , ho! You know I love it here. Especially the fact that Playa Palms Beach Hotel is not a huge resort, but a small boutique hotel where you immediately feel like home. And watching the sun rise over the Caribbean Sea from the hammock in my balcony… unbeatable!
PP: Aww, we’re honored! You sure are one of our favorite guests! May I ask, why do you come every year to Playa del Carmen? What do you like about this place?
Santa: For one thing the sun of course! You know, in northern Finland, where I live, there is not much sun at this time of the year. I like to fuel up with Vitamin D, to be fit and prepared for the Christmas craze in a few weeks. And of course I love the beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya, digging my toes in the white sand while enjoying a refreshing drink. Not even to speak about the array of fantastic attractions in the area, like Chichen Itza, the Tulum ruins, the cenotes… One never gets bored here.
PP: Playa del Carmen for sure is a perfect destination for sun seekers. So, would you mind telling us what you packed for your beach vacation in Playa del Carmen?
Santa: I didn’t bring much. My bathing suit, of course, some shirts, flips flops, conditioner for my beard and lots of sunscreen. You know, my skin isn’t used to so much sun, ho, ho, ho.
PP: Protecting your skin is definitely important. The sun here is a lot stronger than in more northern places. From what you said before, you seem to know Playa del Carmen quite a bit.
Santa: Yes, I do, I have been coming back for vacation every year for a long time.
PP: Since you’re also the expert on Christmas, could you then suggest our guests what to do on Christmas?
Santa: Hmmm, let me think… For the classic Christmas dinner there are sure plenty of restaurants. One of my personal favorites is Restaurant Imprevist, just around the corner of Playa Palms Beach Hotel. They offer a special Christmas Dinner this year. I also like dining at Indigo Beach, just next door to Playa Palms Beach Hotel. They serve fantastic food and are right on the beach!
A few years ago I took a fishing tour in the morning, and prepared the fish I caught for dinner later. It was delicious! I’m sure that would make for an unforgettable Christmas experience too.
If you’re looking to relax during your Christmas get-away, I can highly recommend a spa day. Pamper yourself! There are some world class spas here, that will make you feel like new!
Those of you who like to celebrate Christmas partying, go to Coco Bongo! I had the most fun time there.
PP: Wow, Santa, you went to Coco Bongo?
Santa: Yes, why not? They have a great show! Wait… are you suggesting that just because I’m not 20 anymore, I don’t know how to have a fun time every now and then?
PP: Nooo, Santa, of course that’s not what I’m saying! I just… figured you… at a different kind of event.
Santa: Well then. I’m having quite a good time at the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival too, actually. And I’ve also been to La Vaquita, but I just don’t get why there are cows hanging from the ceiling, and I couldn’t get myself to drink until I understand the decoration, ho ho ho.
PP: Haha, you’re surely not the only one who’s wondering about that. Well, thank you Santa for your time and your great recommendations! We let you be now, so you can enjoy the rest of the afternoon. Let us know if you need anything!
Santa: It was all my pleasure!
