Spring break started already in several states, and the Riviera Maya is a popular place for students to spend it. But don’t worry, Playa del Carmen offers plenty of activities while avoiding the spring break craziness. Here’s how.
Stay at Playa Palms Beach Hotel
Even though Playa Palms Beach Hotel is located downtown Playa del Carmen, you find a calm and peaceful oasis once you enter the hotel. Enjoy the sea view from your balcony, or relax at our private beach!
Spring breakers are known to spend their vacation between the pool, the beach and nightclubs or bars. Thus, visiting cultural attractions is a great way to avoid partying students.
The Mayan ruins in Tulum are located in the most beautiful setting, with the gorgeous Caribbean Sea in the background. To its feet lies a beach that is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Whenever you are traveling to the Riviera Maya, don’t miss this unique spot on the globe!
This one makes for a day trip, but it’s absolutely worth your time. The archaeological site is considered as one of the 7 Wonders of the World, and we promise you will be impressed by its architecture and technique.
These as well, are places that the typical spring break crowd usually avoids. If they only knew what they are missing out on! The Yucatan peninsula has the most beautiful natural attractions, ranging from islands to gorgeous beaches, and tropical forests habituated by monkeys, colorful butterflies, and birds.
You’ve probably never heard of this tiny island, and that’s what makes it such a secret and amazing spot. The island lies north of Isla Mujeres and only a few scientists live there, who dedicate their lives to study and protect the islands flora and fauna. The number of daily visitors is limited. Be ready to explore virgin beaches, see crocodiles, dolphins, birds, monkeys and much more in their natural habitat.
This Biosphere reserve South of Tulum has an exceptionally diverse ecosystem, ranging from cenotes (natural sinking holes), palm savannas, tropical forests, mangrove swamps, to lagoons, white sandy beaches, and dunes. The diverse landscape is home to a big variety of species, among them, animals that are rarely found elsewhere. You’ll get to see tapirs, howler and spider monkeys, crocodiles, jaguars, pumas, and pink flamingos – to only name a few. Prepare for a unique experience!
Explore Playa del Carmen beyond the 5th Avenue
During spring break, the 5th Avenue can get quite crowded. But Playa del Carmen has so much more to offer! There are great restaurants and bars off the 5th Avenue, where tourists hardly find their way to. And if they do, we assure you, it won’t be partying spring breakers.
If you want to try real Mexican food, beyond tacos, you have to eat at Axiote. Their award-winning chef serves the most delicious and most typical plates, at very reasonable prices. The restaurant is located on the 34th Street, between 5th and 10th Avenue (you see, literally steps from the 5th Avenue and you already got rid of the crowd).
Le Lotus Rouge
This is the least possible bar in Playa del Carmen to find spring breakers. It’s difficult to describe Le Lotus Rouge other than weird, magical, and out of this world. Dive into a colorful world full of figurines, sculptures and other artsy objects, while exploring the different rooms of the bar. From live music to karaoke nights, poetry nights, art shows or even a burlesque show you can expect everything at Le Lotus Rouge. The bar is located on the 35th Avenue with 2nd Street.
Ask our concierge or at the front desk of Playa Palms Beach Hotel if you want to reserve a tour or need further recommendations.
