With at least 250 days of sun per year, the Riviera Maya is blessed with beautiful weather most of the time. But even in paradise, cloudy and rainy days can happen. However, not spending the day at the beach doesn’t have to ruin your vacation, since Playa del Carmen has plenty of other fun activities!
How about recharging your energies with a relaxing massage and skin treatment? We all deserve to get pampered once in a while, and what better moment than during vacation when there isn’t anything better to do anyway. Read our list of the top 5 Spas in Playa del Carmen here.
The fact that you couldn’t go on your snorkel trip because of the bad weather doesn’t mean you can’t see beautiful sea creatures. Playa del Carmen’s Aquarium transports you in an underwater world where you can see fishes, reptiles, sharks, rays and more in beautifully displayed tanks. It’s just 5 walking minutes from Playa Palms Beach Hotel, at the Plaza Corazón, between 12th and 14th street, just off the 5th Avenue.
Frida Kahlo Museum
Since you are already in Mexico, why not learn something about its culture? For example about Frida Kahlo, one of the most famous Mexican artists. Visit the Frida Kahlo Museum on the 5th Avenue with 8th Street, to learn about what an amazing woman and artist she was. Read more about the Frida Kahlo Museum here.
3D Museum of Wonders
Playa del Carmen doesn’t have many museums, but the few it has sure are worth a visit. While in other museums you are not allowed to touch the exhibited pieces, here you can actually interact with the art pieces, what makes it a lot of fun. Especially all Instagrammers among you will love the 3D Museum since many effects are only visible on (very Instagram worthy) photos.
Whether it’s raining or not, you should definitely visit a cenote on your trip to Playa del Carmen. These natural pits are truly magical. Many of them are subterranean or in a cave, so the weather really doesn’t matter. Check out our list with the most beautiful cenotes close to Playa del Carmen here.
On a Playa del Carmen rain day, shopping is the perfect alternative to a beach day. Europeans will love the American clothing shops like Forever 21 or American Eagle in the Quinta Alegria (Constituyentes with 5th Avenue) while Americans will love the mostly Spanish clothing brands like Zara or Bershka in the Paseo del Carmen, situated next to the Ferry dock. And all of you will love the great craft shops, souvenirs and clothing stores along the 5th Avenue! Both plazas are within a walking distance from Playa Palms Beach Hotel.
Chichen Itza is about a 3 hours drive away, which means that even though in Playa del Carmen it’s raining cats and dogs, it might actually be sunny there. And these fabulous Mayan ruins, which by the way are among the 7 World Wonders, should definitely be on your bucket list. Ask your favorite weather app about the conditions (search for Valladolid or Pisté if you can’t find Chichen Itza) and ask our concierge Carlos to help you plan your tour!
Enjoy your room at Playa Palms Beach Hotel
And of course, with the comfort of a kitchenette and a hammock on your roofed balcony, spending an afternoon at Playa Palms Beach Hotel is a nice option too. Get a drink, lean back, and enjoy the view!
