5th Avenue is Playa’s hotspot for dining and dancing, but few of 5th Ave’s dining establishments are entirely owned by locals. Elevated real estate values in these locations often require the investment of foreigners. International cuisine abounds, and even the Mexican or Mayan-inspired restaurants have a mix of flavors and ingredients that break from the traditional norm.
Looking for Authentic Playa Del Carmen Restaurants? Veer From the Well-Trodden Tourist Path
If you don’t mind sparing a bit of the glitzy ambiance of 5th Avenue, we recommend veering from the well-trodden tourist path and discovering Playa del Carmen’s most authentic restaurants. You’ll get to eat “the real deal” when it comes to Mexican food. Plus, you’ll pay locals’ prices.
This statement from Travel Yucatan says it best. The best restaurants in Playa del Carmen aren’t really “restaurants” at all.
However, we understand you’re on vacation, and a more comfortable scene may be more your style. In that case, we recommend visiting the following:
Cockteleria Manigua. Specializing in seafood, this restaurant is located on 40th street, between 5th and 10th avenues.
El Faisán y El Venado. Looking for traditional Yucatán cuisine? Head south on Hwy 307 and make a right on Ave. Benito Juarez.
El Fogón. Here you’ll find traditional Mexican food, and some regulars claim they have the best tacos in the area.
Contact Playa Palms Beach Hotel to book your reservation. You can experience the best that a beachside vacation have to offer, and we’ll direct you to the most authentic Playa del Carmen restaurants and attractions, so you never feel like part of the tourist crowd.
