Playa del Carmen is a great place to spend New Year. There’s something for every taste, no matter if you’re traveling with your family or if you’re a party animal. And the best of all might be waking up in a Caribbean paradise. Here are Playa Palms‘ hot tips on where to spend New Year’s Eve 2018:
Who follows our blog, knows that one of our favorite repetitive guests is Santa Claus. He usually stays at Playa Palms Beach Hotel a few days in December. This year he is visiting together with his wife, Mary Christmas. While last year we wanted to know what he likes most about Playa del Carmen, now we asked more intimate questions and learned who really manages his business and that he had to go in therapy.
PP: Hi Santa, hi Miss Santa! It’s so nice to welcome you two back again!
Santa Claus: Hi, I’m glad to be back too. It’s always nice to relax a little before all the Christmas stress.
Mary Christmas: Hi, thank you, we really like to come to Playa del Carmen, especially to Playa Palms Beach Hotel. It’s nice to see familiar faces every year, it feels like coming home.
PP: That makes us really happy, Miss Santa! Santa, I see you’re wearing a Corona shirt. We thought you love certain black-colored soda with a red label.
Santa: Well, I do. But you know, the contract I signed with them says I have to appear in public a certain amount of times, drinking their soda. We had a financial shortage some 100 years ago and they sponsored our uniforms. Unfortunately, we didn’t read the small print. And, just between us, I’m a bit sick of the beverage. I really try to eat healthily and lose some pounds, but drinking so much sugary soda makes it nearly impossible. Right now, I’m negotiating that I am at least allowed to drink the light version. But anyway, as I’m on holiday now, I also take a break from the black soda. And I really like Corona! But, of course, to be enjoyed with moderation.
PP: Very responsible attitude, Santa. And good luck with your negotiations! Talking about healthy food, you might love to hear that we are going to extend our breakfast options at Playa Palms, youwill soon be able to order eggs.
Santa: That sure will make our annual stay at Playa Palms Beach Hotel even better!
PP: Out of curiosity, what do you think of people who don’t believe in Santa?
Santa: Well, I am standing here now, in front of you, how can you say I don’t exist? It’s so upsetting when people tell you that you don’t exist. I actually went to therapy during few summer seasons, because I had a deep existential crisis. You know, it starts to get to you, when so many people tell you that you aren’t real. I started to doubt my own existence!
Mary: Yes, it was a very hard time for us. Luckily, the therapy really helped.
Santa: Yes, I now know that I am real, unlike unicorns for example. But they have a huge fan base and even had their own drink at Starbucks!
Mary: Ssh, don’t upset yourself. Think of all the children who are eagerly awaiting to see you in a few days.
PP: Ehm… let’s change the subject. All of us have one doubt. Isn’t this supposed to be the busiest time of the year now for you?
Santa: Nah, that’s what the elves are for. Or little people, how they prefer to be called nowadays. Busy time for me is Christmas Day.
PP: Oh ok, I see. And what about you, Miss Santa, are you involved in the business or what do you do?
Mary: Only a few people know that the business actually used to be mine, but a few hundred years ago it was difficult owning a business as a woman, so I transferred it to my husband. I’m still the one in charge actually, doing all the organizing. Santa is responsible for delivery. Which continues to be a good way to handle business, since for some reason people want me to deliver the presents in ridiculously sexy outfits. As if anyone would wear a negligee outside in winter! But they’re completely fine with my husband wearing normal winter clothes. No one seems to want to see his hairy belly!
PP: Oh wow, I really didn’t know that! I bet organizing Christmas must be a lot of work.
Miss Santa: Yes, it is. That’s why I really appreciate getting some time off to relax here in Playa Palms Beach Hotel. I really just want to lie in the hammock on our balcony and enjoy the gorgeous ocean view all day. Since we’re still a bit jetlagged, we use to wake up early and love watching the sun rise over the Caribbean Sea.
PP: That sure is an amazing view! And we will do everything so the both of you will have a great vacation.
