Are you looking to dine in one of the smaller, less touristy and more authentic restaurants in Playa del Carmen? Get off the beaten path and visit Fonda Regina. It’s an authentic Mexican restaurant with artisanal flair.
Enjoy the Fresh Flavors of Fonda Regina: Where Organic Foods are Sourced From Small Family Growers
Fonda Regina is located at Calle 38 Norte (North 38th Street), which is a little bit off the main drag. It’s a place where both locals, ex-pats, and travelers-in-the-know can step outside of the hubbub, enjoy tantalizing cocktails made with seasonal fresh fruit juices, and a menu filled with traditional Mexican food made from seasonal ingredients.
La Fonda’s owner, Antonio, takes great pride in the fact that he selects only the freshest and highest-quality ingredients from small family growers all over Mexico. He places an emphasis on sourcing organic products whenever possible, including organic coconut oil, eggs, and vegetables. There are no grocery store products in his dishes.
Speaking of his dishes, let’s take a look at some of La Fonda’s menu highlights:
- Drinks. The cocktails here are made with seasonal fruit juice, so the menu options in May will be different from those offered in December. Guests don’t seem to mind, and we recommend ordering one to start your meal. They are all made with his own Mezcal label.
- Ceviche. The ceviche at Fonda Regina is made with fresh fish caught that morning, marinated and cooked in citrus juice with chopped avocado, onion, and seasonal vegetables. It’s served on a platter of homemade veggie chips.
- Picadas. Resembling mini-tostadas, Picadas are made with a thicker version of fresh tortillas, covered with a thin layer of beans. Then each of the picadas are topped with a different type of traditional Mexican stew and complementary herbs and/or cheese.
