When traveling, we often let our fitness routines slide. Especially in Playa del Carmen, where international restaurants, bars, and an exciting nightlife are tempting. But it doesn’t have to be like that! It’s actually very easy to exercise and stay fit on your vacation in Playa del Carmen. There are many activities to indulge in, and they are great ways to meet new people too.
Let’s start with the most obvious fitness activity, given that we are in a beach town. Jump into the sea or hotel pool and swim a few rounds! Swimming is a great sport that keeps your whole body fit and has many physical and mental health benefits. If you are staying at Playa Palms Beach Hotel, you can either swim a few rounds in our pool, facing the beach or cast yourself into the glinting waves of the Caribbean Sea.
Again, one of the most obvious fitness activities to perform since you are at the beach. Playa del Carmen has several beach volleyball courts where you can play. The closest to Playa Palms Beach Hotel is just across the Constituyentes Avenue. Also on both sides of the ferry station, you find a volleyball court. There are always some people playing which makes it a fun way to meet new folks. And to cool off, just jump into the sea!
Stand-Up Paddle Board (SUP)
Have you ever tried stand-up paddleboarding? The traditional method of Polynesian fishermen has arrived in Playa del Carmen too and got very popular over the last few years. The sport has indeed many benefits. It’s a full body work out since almost every muscle is used. Plus, it improves your balance and endurance. Not to forget about the soothing effect of enjoying the beautiful views of the beach and the sea. On the 6th Street at the beach, you find the Aloha Paddle Club. You can rent boards and take SUP lessons there.
Walk instead of taking the car
Walking keeps you fit as well! Playa del Carmen is a very pedestrian-friendly city that is easily walkable. Especially the 5th Avenue is a great place to stroll along, see people from all over the world, see street artists perform, for shopping and dining. Or how about a walk along the beach? Rent a bike
It can be a fun way to discover a city on a bike. Thanks to bike paths, it’s easy to drive around Playa del Carmen. Discover further away beaches and explore the neighborhoods! Combine fitness and adventure at Punta Venado, you can rent mountain bikes and drive on special trails along the beach and through the jungle.
Is there anything more relaxing than starting your day with some morning yoga, facing the sea? On the CTM Avenue between 5th and 10th Street, you find the most relaxing yoga studio Yoga by the Sea, with experienced international teachers. They also offer Spanish classes, cooking classes, and yoga teachers training.
For the gym enthusiasts among you, don’t worry, there are plenty of gyms in Playa del Carmen. ON the 1st Avenue between Constituyentes and 16th Street is The Gym (yes, that’s its simple and direct name), which is actually quite popular for tourists who are just buying a day pass. It offers classes, has a towel service, snack bar and even has DJ nights, with live DJs spinning the turntable while you sweat. Oh, and, most importantly, it is air-conditioned.
